Artist Statement

As an artist, Anjenette Britton navigates the vibrant intersection of oil painting, graphic design, and fashion design, drawing inspiration from the world around her and the powerful narratives that shape identities. With a Bachelor of Fine Art, concentrating in both Graphic and Fashion Design, she explores the synergy between visual storytelling and material culture, creating pieces that celebrate individuality and heritage.

Influenced by the profound work of artist Amy Sherald and the innovative costume designs of Ruth Carter, Anjenette aims to capture the richness of human experience through color, texture, and form. Her oil paintings serve as a canvas for reflection, inviting viewers to engage with the stories embedded in each brushstroke, while her graphic and fashion designs further enhance these narratives, transforming them into tangible expressions of art.

Currently, Anjenette has the privilege of serving as a gallery curator at For All Handkind in Norfolk, VA, where she strives to foster community engagement and showcase diverse artistic voices. Her commitment to collaboration and dialogue within the arts underscores her belief in the transformative power of creativity.

Through her work, Anjenette invites exploration of the dynamic interplay of design and painting, where each piece is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a conversation starter. She encourages others to join her on this journey as they delve into the layers of identity, culture, and expression that define shared humanity.
